ERCS provides over 76 million birr worth material support to displaced people due to the conflict
ERCS on the joint media briefing with ICRC called on December 22, 2017, announced that they have provided over 76 million birr worth food and non-food items support to internally displaced people due to the recent conflict in Somalia and Oromiya regions.
W/ro Frehiwot Worku Secretary General of ERCS said that “since the beginning of the conflict, the Society has been there in Oromiya and Somali regions supporting the vulnerable communities.”
She said that the Society has stood with the displaced people by offering food and non-food items worth 76, 483, 248 birr reaching 159, 425 individuals, first aid and ambulance service for 848 people deploying 64 volunteers and restoring family link services for 227 people.
Among recipients of ambulance services, 50 were pregnant women and 80 were breast feeding mothers.
The support to the victims of the conflict is given in collaboration with the support from the ICRC and other donor organizations.
“In this regard, the ICRC donated 30,240,000 birr worth non-food items and services to 15,000 internally displaced vulnerable communities,” W/ro Frehiwot added.
Similarly, the IOM, Handicap International, Coca Cola East Africa and Heinken Brewery donated a total of over 20 million birr to the victims of the conflict, it’s learned.
In addition to the non-food items support, the Society has been providing first aid and ambulance service, temporary shelter and food to the displaced people.
Moreover, the Society affirmed its commitment to continue supporting vulnerable communities by providing humanitarian assistance.
