ERCS Addis Ababa Branch Doubles Its Membership Base

Ethiopian Red Cross Society, Addis Ababa branch doubled its members from 30,000 in 2015/16 to 60,000 in the first quarter of 2016/17 budget year.
The branch has been striving towards expansion of its membership base with particular focus on corporations and organizations which have large numbers of employees.
Mandefro Negash, Resource and Organizational Development Head at Addis Ababa Branch said that, “during the last year’s annual performance review of the branch, we identified major gaps in membership drive and vowed to improve it.”
Since then the branch has been working hard to identify potential organizations, convince and negotiate with the corporations residing in Addis.
Commercial Bank of Ethiopia and Ethio Telecom are among the giant organizations willing to increase their support. Currently, both organizations are corporate member of ERCS Addis Ababa Branch and all their employees are registered regular Red Cross members.
Private companies and other financial institutions are also showing their commitment to increase their support to enhance the capacity of the branch thereby improve the humanitarian service being rendered to the community.
In 2016/17 fiscal year, the branch has a plan of humanitarian interventions on various rapid and slow onset disasters such as fire accidents, flooding, elderly support, community health problem interventions and others, it is learned.
