ERCS Conducts Workshop On PMER Capacities

A workshop, which was organized by the Ethiopian Red Cross Society (ERCS) on Planning, Monitoring, Evaluation and Reporting and financial reporting capacities, was conducted from May 25-26, 2014 at Butajira.
It was indicated that the major objective of the workshop was to discuss and to improve planning, monitoring, evaluation and reporting capacities of ERCS South Nation, Nationalities and People (SNNPS) Regional Branch.
While opening the workshop Ato Wondawk Abeze, DSG Support services at the ERCS, indicated that the workshop was organized following the change plan implementation evaluation which identified gaps in the areas of planning, monitoring, evaluation and reporting capacities in ERCS SNNPS Regional Branch.
He urged participants to actively participate in the workshop and apply lessons drawn from the workshop in discharging their duties and responsibilities in order to realize the change that ERCS is striving for.
In his welcoming remark, Ato Lire Abyou, Deputy Board Chairman of ERCS SNNPS Regional Branch, thanked ERCS for organizing the workshop which was crucial to fill skill and knowledge gaps and to go along with the social and scientific dynamism.
Heads of zonal branches in the region also discussed and exchanged ideas on how to start branch development initiatives taking experience from the pilot project being undertaken in Izia District of Gurage Zone.
Besides, Head of each branch in the region presented the implementation status report of One Birr for Humanity campaign that ERCS has launched to become a self reliant society. In a related development, training was given to administration and finance officers drawn from all zone branches in region to enhance finance information preparation and reporting capacities in their respective zones in particular and in the region in general. These officers were also briefed about the concept of change and change activities undertaken by ERCS. W/ro Elisabeth Zergaw , Board Treasurer of ERCS SNNPS Regional Branch, said the workshop would enable to smoothen and strengthen the work relationship between the branch and the national office.
Closing the workshop, Ato wondawk urged participants to focus on mobilizing local resources and to use resource for planned activities more efficiently and effectively. He also commended the achievement made regarding One Birr for Humanity campaign and requested officials of each zonal branch to work more aggressively to meet their target.
