The IFRC Secretary General paid a working visit to the ERCS
The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) Secretary General H.E Elhadj As Sy paid a working visit to the Ethiopian Red Cross Society (ERCS) Felwuha Multi-purpose building project, and the Society’s Emergency Operation Center from October 21 to 23, 2019.
The Secretary General came to visit the Ethiopian Red Cross Society (which is one of the oldest & largest National Society in Africa) to strengthen the relationship between the Federation and the Society and discussed with Ato Abera Tola, President of the ERCS and Dr. Meshesha Shewarega Secretary General of ERCS on the Federation best way to support the National Society.
In his visit the Secretary General went to Ethiopian Airlines Max 8 plane crash site and appreciated those volunteers who provided voluntary services during the incident. He also inaugurated Indoda hand pump water project constructed by ERCS Easter Showa Zone of Oromia branch and that benefited 150 households.
During his stay H.E Elhadj As Sy also made a courtesy visit to the African Union Chairperson, H.E Mussa Faki Muhammet and discussed with him on how IFRC and the AU work together in area of people displacement, intense climate change and issues of instability occurred due to violence in the continent.
The IFRC Secretary General said the Federation will support the Society’s new strategic plan implementation and assured that partnership with the Ethiopian Red Cross Society will continue.
