Ethiopian Red Cross Society and Dukem Chamber of Commerce and Sectoral Association agree to work together
The Ethiopian Red Cross Society and the Dukem Chamber of Commerce and Sectoral Association signed a Memorandum of Understanding today, October 19, 2020 G.C to work together for the next five years. The objective of this MOU is to lay out a framework for collaboration between the Parties to work together on membership and volunteer’s mobilization, promotion of peace, expansion of Red Cross activities including provision of essential drugs by mobilizing the business community and the public at large.
President of the Dukem Chamber of Commerce and Sectoral Association, Jigsaw Bekele, who signed the agreement on behalf of the Dukem Chamber of Commerce and Sectoral Association, said, “We are determined to support and work with the Ethiopian Red Cross Society because it is an institution that supports the commercial community and the society at large to live in peace and healthy.” He also express his gratitude On behalf of the Chamber of Commerce and Sectoral Association.
Acting Secretary General of the Ethiopian Red Cross Society, Abera Lulesa, who signed the agreement on behalf of ERCS, on his part said, “The Ethiopian Red Cross Society is a leading institution in providing humanitarian assistance to the victims of natural and man-made disasters and reducing the risk of disasters.” He said “in addition to the current 6 million members and 200,000 volunteers ERCS needs more members and volunteers to address its humanitarian support nationwide. I would like to thank the Dukem Chamber of Commerce and Sectoral Association and the city administration for agreeing to work with us on this regard today. I call on other institutions to follow the example of the Dukem Chamber of Commerce and Sectoral Association and support the Ethiopian Red Cross Society. ” Abera also conveyed a message to the community to stand with the Ethiopian Red Cross Society in the ongoing efforts to prevent locust swarms and support farmers in various parts of the country.
Tesfaye Kacha, Head of the Dukem City Mayor’s Office of, said he is pleased that Dukem Chamber of Commerce and Sectoral Association and the Ethiopian Red Cross Society have agreed to work together. He said that the city administration will support the Red Cross capacity building to ensure the benefit of the people.
Based on this Memorandum of Understanding the Dukem Chamber of Commerce and Sectoral Association will perform activities like Facilitating and promoting membership, volunteer and resource mobilization efforts of ERCS in the population, business community and in the Eastern Industrial Zone; Facilitating and coordinating fundraising activities of the ERCS with the business community in the Chamber and in the Eastern Industrial zone; Mobilizing corporate members in the business community for ERCS and encourage business companies. The Ethiopian Red Cross Society, for its part, will carry out all necessary measures to expand Red Cross activities including opening of new woreda branch, deliver first aid training and, open and provide pharmaceutical services to the communities in line.
