The ERCS delegation embarked on a visit to the Red Cross Society of China from Nov 17-22, 2023.
The delegation, comprising Ato Abera Tola, Ato Tewodros Alamrew (Head for SG Office), and Professor Firdisa Jebessa (Consultant for the School of Humanity), participated in the Third Soochow International Climate Change Forum. Our representatives engaged in insightful discussions and exchange of ideas on the global challenge of climate change.
During the visit, the ERCS team had the privilege of exploring the International Academy of Red Cross and Red Crescent (IARC). Significant discussions with officials of the Academy centered on the overall activities of the Academy. This visit aimed to garner valuable experiences and lessons for the ERCS School of Humanity, currently in the process of establishment.
Additionally, the delegation visited key institutions, including the Shanghai Red Cross branch, the Shanghai GRM Center, and the First Aid Center operated by the RCSC and the Shanghai municipal. The team also explored other historical and technological landmarks, fostering cultural exchange and mutual understanding.
An exceptional highlight was President Ato Abera Tola’s participation in a panel discussion during the forum. Under the theme “Chaired the Climate and Environmental Ethics in Humanitarian Action,” he contributed valuable insights, showcasing ERCS’s commitment to addressing environmental challenges within the humanitarian framework.
This visit not only strengthened the bonds between the Ethiopian Red Cross Society and the Red Cross Society of China but also provided invaluable insights and inspiration for the development of the ERCS School of Humanity.
