Swedish Delegates Confer with ERCS’s Management
February 5, 2026News#swedishinternationaldevelopmentcooperationERCSswedishembassySwedishRedCross

The delegates from the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida), the Swedish Red Cross, and the Swedish Embassy in Ethiopia have conferred with the Ethiopian Red Cross Society’s (ERCS) Secretary General and management on the progress of the renewed partnership, in Addis Ababa.

Ato Abera Lulessa, Secretary General of ERCS, welcomed the delegates and briefed them on the Society’s institutional capacity in disaster preparedness, emergency response, WASH and Health, and migration management.

Ato Abera underscored the importance of working in cooperation with the Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement partners, welcoming the Swedish Red Cross as one of the nine Partner National Societies (PNSs) that have been closely working with ERCS and are adding great value to the Society.

For Ato Abebe Getaneh, Director, Disaster Risk Management Department at ERCS, migration has top priority in ERCS’s strategic plan, stipulating that it has become challenging for the nation due to climate shocks, economic pressure, and a strict migration law of the Middle Eastern Countries.

Mrs. Anna Berglug, Program Specialist, Department for Global Operations Unit for Peace and Migration at Sida, on her part, welcomed the renewed partnership and expressed the readiness of Sida to launch the migration program in cooperation with Swedish Red Cross and ERCS that will be implemented in Ethiopia’s Oromia and Amhara regions soon.
