The Ethiopian Red Cross Society (ERCS), one of the 192 national Red Cross and Red Crescent societies around the world, was founded on July 8th, 1935, by government Decree, following the second Italian invasion of Ethiopia. It began by providing humanitarian services to wounded soldiers and civilian victims. That same year on the 25th of September 1935, ERCS was officially recognized as the 48th member of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies.
This program encompasses a range of activities aimed at implementing both emergency response and humanitarian development.
ERCS designed this new program primarily to play its part in the process of strengthening social cohesion and the prevalence of peace.
As a volunteer and member-based Society, one of its top priorities is to increase their number and contribution in the humanitarian field.
The program is designed to bring the Red Cross and its humanitarian activities closer to the people.
Capacity Building is among the core programs of the Society to ensure humanitarian and development effectiveness.
