Embarking on its journey in 1952 G.C. within Addis Ababa, the Ethiopian Red Cross Society (ERCS) has steadfastly expanded its Ambulance and First Aid services across the nation. What was once a humble endeavor has blossomed into a comprehensive and vital resource, now accessible through all regional branches and two city administrations.
Guided by its commitment to excellence, ERCS has developed its own Ambulance Management Manual, refining it three times to incorporate vital and current insights. The Society’s dedication is evident as all ERCS Regional/Zonal branches and Woreda coordination offices bolster their emergency response capacity, ensuring round-the-clock Ambulance and First Aid services free of charge for any emergency call. These services are made possible by the devotion of trained youth volunteers and professional volunteers.
ERCS’s remarkable infrastructure boasts 256 Ambulance stations, housing 444 Ambulance vehicles. Annually, the Society reaches over 420,000 beneficiaries. To sustain this noble effort, ERCS secures an operational budget exceeding 210 million birr each year, generously allocated by service partners.
Looking ahead, ERCS is driven by the vision of transforming its emergency transport service into a coordinated pre-hospital emergency ambulance service. This evolution includes deploying professional volunteers and equipping ambulance vehicles with essential service materials. A testament to modernization, the Ambulance and First Aid services are fortified by a standardized web-based database accessible to all concerned staff members.
The legacy of ERCS’s Ambulance and First Aid services illuminates a path of unwavering compassion and efficient care. Join us as we continue to prioritize lives, provide aid, and nurture communities.
