Branch Office Provides Red Cross Training for Security Forces

The Addis Ababa Branch Office of the Ethiopian Red Cross Society (ERCS), in collaboration with the Society’s Humanitarian Diplomacy and Communication Service, conducted a one-day Red Cross Training for Security Forces on May 28, 2026.

The training brought together police officers from the Addis Ababa Police Commission and the city’s eleven sub-cities, along with branch office and zonal coordination office staff.
The training aimed to strengthen participants’ understanding of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement and enhance their contribution to the Movement’s humanitarian mission.

Key topics covered included the history and components of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement, its Fundamental Principles, the significance and protection of its emblems, the history and legal mandate of the Ethiopian Red Cross Society, its services and current activities, as well as the nature and application of International Humanitarian Law (IHL).

Participants noted that the training provided valuable knowledge and a deeper understanding of the Movement’s humanitarian work. They expressed their willingness to collaborate with the Ethiopian Red Cross Society both institutionally and individually and recommended expanding similar awareness-raising programs to reach a wider audience.

Promoting understanding of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement remains one of the Movement’s key priorities, helping strengthen humanitarian action and community engagement.
