ERCS Develops Multi-Hazard Contingency Plan to Strengthen Disaster Preparedness
The Ethiopian Red Cross Society (ERCS), in partnership with the Netherlands Red Cross, is conducting a three-day workshop to develop a Multi-Hazard Contingency Plan that will strengthen the Society’s preparedness and emergency response capacity.
The workshop brings together representatives from government institutions, Partner National Societies, the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies(IFRC), and ERCS headquarters and regional branches. It aims to produce a practical, actionable, and ERCS-owned contingency plan that enhances the Society’s ability to anticipate, prepare for, and respond to priority hazards in a timely and coordinated manner.
Opening the workshop, Ato Mohammed Dada, Director of the Disaster Preparedness and Response Department at ERCS, emphasized that the contingency plan is more than a document. He described it as a commitment to timely and coordinated humanitarian action and a roadmap for safeguarding lives, protecting livelihoods, and strengthening community resilience in the face of disasters.
He also stressed that addressing multiple hazards requires strong preparedness, planning, and coordinated action, underscoring the importance of developing a comprehensive contingency plan.
Once finalized, the Multi-Hazard Contingency Plan will serve as a living internal document that guides ERCS in preparing for and responding effectively to multiple hazards across Ethiopia.
