President Mulatu Receives ERCS Board Members

President of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia and ERCS Patron Ambassador Dr Mulatu Teshome have received National Board Members of Ethiopian Red Cross Society (ERCS) on October 23, 2013 at the National palace. President Mulatu after having listened to the explanation of ERCS leaders stated that the FDRE government will continue to strengthen its support based on the charter. The president further noted that ERCS as a humanitarian organization should give attention and priority to change the attitude of the people to develop a culture of tolerance and peace in addition to the humanitarian service it gives during man-made and natural disasters. He has also emphasized that the National Societys reputation is very big and needs to advocate its objective to ensure the citizens support by public mobilization. In this regard, the government of Ethiopia is willing to work with and assist ERCSs effort to its level best as it always does, he added. During the courtesy meeting ERCS Board President Ato Daniel Tegenu explained about the National Societys establishment, its major activities and the income source to undertake its major activities. Ato Daniel further explained that the FDRE government is one of the major supporters of ERCS and requested the FDRE President and ERCS Patorn to strengthen this harmonized and mutually benefitial relationship. Besides, he requested the President to deliver an opening speech and give directions during the upcoming general assembly that will be held from November 1-2, 2013 in the ERCS Training Center hall. ERCS Vice President Dr Ahmed Reja after congratulating president Mulatus appointment as a head of state; said that ERCS is a humanitarian organization that gives auxilary service to the government. He has also explained about the change process that ERCS is undertaking to become a self reliant National Society striving for a better outreach and quality of service in the humanitarian business. The National Society is now focusing on humanitarian development affairs that it can excel, he added. ERCS Secretary General W/ro Frehiwot worku on her part has explained about the status of Filwuha Multipurpose building and requested the Patron and his government to support the National Societys effort in mobilizing resources from prominent business people.
