Society Acknowledges Former Presidents Contribution To Humanitarian Activities

The Ethiopian Red Cross Society (ERCS) paid tribute to the former FDRE President and the Societys Patron Ato Girma Wolde-Giorgis for his immense and outstanding contribution to the humanitarian and voluntary activities during his term of presidency. In a special occasion organized to acknowledge the Presidents achievements at the National Palace on October 1, 2013, ERCS then Vice President and now President, Dr. Ahmed Reja said that the President, who has rendered an excellent humanitarian services for scores of years, is one of the members and volunteers of the Red Cross that have played a significant role towards the successes that the Society has been registering. During his presidency, President Girma as a patron of the Society has been doing his level best to strengthen and enhance the Societys humanitarian programmes. Accordingly, the Society has been able to mobilize volunteers and provide humanitarian services in an effective and efficient manner under the strong leadership of the President, Dr. Ahmed noted. He also said, President Girmas many years of service is something that deserves recognition for he has played a key role and became a mentor for volunteerism and humanitarian activities. It is true that the President has guided various humanitarian and environmental conservation activities which proved that he is always a partner of national development programs. Thus, the Society extends appreciation and recognition to the presidents all rounded endeavor,the Vice President said. Dr. Ahmed further said that President Girma is always helpful and fully committed to transform ERCS into strong and vibrant organization working for the well being of the public. ERCS Secretary General W/ro Frehiwot Worku on her part noted that during his tenure as FDRE President and Patron to the Society, the former President has given enormous services that range from receiving the guests of honors of the Society to supporting ERCS humanitarian endeavors to be fruitful. The President has highly been involved in the Societys resource mobilization program and is always concerned about the Society to strengthen itself and improve its services, said the Secretary General. The Patron who is also a lifetime member of the Society has been closely working with the Society to deliver meaningful humanitarian aids to the vulnerable people, W/ro Frehiwot added. After receiving the accolade, the President also expressed happiness for the recognition he received from the Society. Indicating that it is a great privilege to serve the Society that is engaged in humanitarian and relief activities, the President expressed commitment to sustain support to humanitarian organizations. On the occasion, President Girma handed over certificates to organizations which contributed financially and technically to the Societys SMS lottery game designed to raise fund.
