ERCS Commemorates World Red Cross Red Crescent Day

Ethiopian Red Cross Society commemorated the 150th anniversary of world Red Cross and Red Crescent day under the international motto 150 years of humanitarian action and with a national motto of 77 years of humanitarian action on May 4, 2013 at Addis Ababa Stadium. In a keynote message delivered by his representative, Ato Kuma Demeksa, mayor of Addis Ababa City Administration said that the mottos illustrate the unique position that spending all these years in saving lives through humanitarian activity holds.
He also vowed to further continue the city administrations cooperation towards supporting the Red Cross movement.
At the half day celebration hosted by ERCS, Secretary General Wro Firehiwot Worku called upon the public and the youth to continue and strengthen the support and voluntary services so as to execute the humanitarian activities effectively.
ERCS President Ato Daniel Tegenu on his part expressed his gratitude for those who have supported the Red Cross movements.
International Federation of Red Cross and Red Cross Societies (IFRC) country representative Mr. George Gigiberia expressed his appreciation about the growing number of participants commemorating the day he has been observing in his seven years stay in Ethiopia The event staged a friendly football match between an artists team and a humanitarian team in which the latter has beaten the former 4-3. Apart from the football match, the Federal Police Marching band and ERCS Addis Ababa Branchs band made the event colorful.
