Society Conducts Annual Plan Performance Review

The Ethiopian Red Cross Society conducted 2013/14 annual plan performance review of its Southern Nation Nationalities and Peoples branch from 31 July to 1 August 2014 in Hawassa held at Harmony hotel.
Ato Tamene Tesema Board chairman of the Branch in his opening speech said that, this fiscal year achievements of the regional branch is promising to sustain its humanitarian service better than the previous year.He further noted that the regional branch should learn from its achievements and failures by strengthening the strong ones and taking the necessary measures on the weaknesses identified so far. Stressing this fiscal year achievements, he also capitalized that the strength of the past budget year should be taken as a footage to perform more in the upcoming plan period. The Board chairman call up on all participants to discuss openly on the 2013/14 plan performances by identifying the strength, weakness and gaps and come up with better recommendations to be taken as input for the upcoming budget year plan to tackle the problems and fill the gaps observed so far.
In the two days review meeting, ERCS SNNP branch and its zonal branches have presented or staged their 2013/14 plan performance. All participants of the review meeting have been engaged actively and undertake constructive discussions on the deliberations.
In the review meeting, the harmonized relationship with different regional government organs, the relatively better performance of the branch in implementing One Birr for Humanity resource mobilization campaign, the community service rendered by own budget in Wolayta zonal branch, the income generating activities achieved by South Omo branch, the Regional Board commitment to work ERCS activities side by side while they are going to different areas of the region for government assignment, the growth in membership drive in almost all zonal branches, the data collection mechanism in terms of beneficiaries of the drug shops and pharmacies and the success of self-development project and recruiting NGOs for membership in Guragae zonal branch were identified and considered as the strengths among others that should continue in more strong manner in the following years. On the other hand, poor quality of planning and performance reports, the attitude of the zonal branches on government ambulance services as negative competitors, the conference held in Hadiya zonal branch without the knowledge of the regional branch and the Head Quarter and the resource mapping and management were the gaps identified among others that needs to be given emphasis and addressed in the coming year plan.
In general except the weaknesses that need more attention in the coming year plan, in all cases, it has been observed a better performance as compared to the previous year plan performance periods.
While closing the review meeting, ERCS Secretary General Frehiwot Worku presented the Societys major plan achievements and challenges of the 2013/14 budget year with the coming year focus areas and change directions.
She has underscored that the relatively better performance of the ERCS SNNP branch can be considered as the major success of its change agenda. According to her, it is like getting the lost sheep from the dense forest.She has also stressed this change achievements of the regional branch should further be strengthened by taking the detail inputs the two days evaluation delivered by participants. She has also noted that everybody who is working for Red Cross should stand strongly to serve the community and be happy with the positive achievements and services rendered to the vulnerable.
Finally, she has appreciated the preparation and thanked the Regional Board for its commitment shown, the branch office and the host Sidama zone branch.
ERCS Gambella and Benishangul Gumz branches were also among the participants who presented their respective branch plan performance of 2013/14.
