New Secretary General Of IFRC Pledges To Support And Strengthen ERCS

H. E. Elhadj Amadou As Sy, the new Secretary General of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) pledged to support and strengthen the Ethiopian Red Cross Society (ERCS) based on the master plan and the framework developed by the latter. Upon completing the discussion that H. E. Elhadj Amadou As Sy held with Board and Management members of ERCS, on the afternoon of September 4, 2014 at the Board Room of ERCS, Mr. As Sy, commended the effort that the leadership of ERCS is exerting to transform the society in to a modern, effective and efficient humanitarian institution. He also advised the leadership of the society to be innovative in mobilizing resources capitalizing Addis Ababa as the capital of Africa. In his welcoming speech, Dr. Ahmed Reja, President of ERCS, praised Mr. Elhadj As Sy for his decision to visit ERCS and indicated that his visit is also a great demonstration and commitment of IFRC to ERCS. Dr. Ahmed also indicated the support that IfRC provided to ERCS to help the latter to make itself worth of its name and become a self-sustainable society.
W/ro Frehiwot Worku, Secretary General of ERCS, presented overview of the societys situations which include among others the history of the society, what the society has been doing so far, challenges that the society faced, the assessment that ERCS made to implement new initiatives to transform the society, findings of the assessment, achievement made so far and measures to be taken to implement the change agenda.
H. E. Elhadj Amadou As Sy, who was on official visit to Ethiopia from September 4-5, 2014, first met with H. E. Dr. Mulatu Teshome, President of FDRE, and then with H. E. Ato Hailemariam Desalegn, Prime Minister of the FDRE and discussed on activities of ERCS and other movements.
