Red Cross Reaches Out To Afar Flood Victims

The Ethiopian Red Cross Society (ERCS) has reached out for flood victims in Zone 3, Dulecha and Amibara Woredas (districts) of Afar Regional State.
The flood was caused by torrential rain that has been pouring down since October 7, 2014. It was also noted that the displaced people are now taking refuge at the nearby mountainous places.
Following the flood disaster in the Region ERCS called upon its regional branch offices to join hands in helping those affected by the flood. The call was responded by ERCS Amhara Regional Branch Office that has has donated 155,000 Birr .
ERCS has distributed 584 cartons of biscuits for those persons affected by the flood. The number of flood affected families in the two Woredas that have received the assistance is 29, 032.
According to the Ministry of Water, Irrigation and Energy over 7,000 households have been displaced from their villages due to the overflowing of Awash River
