ERCS And IFRC Conduct Workshop On Bridging Science And Community Action For Climate Resilience

The Ethiopian Red Cross Society (ERCS) in collaboration with the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) conducts a two day workshop on the effect of science and community towards building resilience community and food security for vulnerable groups and small farmers from January 24 25, 2017 at IFRC Conference room.
Opening the workshop, Frehiwot Worku, Secretary General of the ERCS said Climate change is affecting all our lives on a continuous manner. And our Community relay on expertise information to develop different coping mechanism.To this effect ERCS feel closer and appropriately positioned as a viable bridge to provide information to communities to prepare for disaster and develop appropriate activities to build their resilience.
The secretary general added ERCS is complimenting government interventions in the area of climate adaptation and resilience building by providing usable information to the communities to prepare for disaster and take advantage from the provided information.
The Ethiopian Red Cross Society addressed disaster response work primarily identifying climate change occurred disaster as the measure vulnerability factor. In addition the society disaster risk reduction department is effectively implementing community resilient program which is the focus area of the National Societies response component.
Youcef Ait Chellouche, Head of Delegation and Permanent Representative to the AU and IO, IFRC on his part said workshop of this kind helps in identifying the impact of climate change on humanitarian interventions and way of bringing policy directions and strategic action down to the community level.
In the workshop Issues regarding on how humanitarian organizations use climate services, anticipating risks and taking a timely measures to reduce risk and ways of identifying opportunities through collaboration and partnership were highlighted.
Representatives from ERCS, IFRC and Partner National Societies, Ministry of Agriculture, National Meteorology Agency and the World Bank took part in the workshop.
