ERCS Secretary General receives Iranian Ambassador to Ethiopia
Mrs. Frehiwot Worku, Secretary General (SG) of Ethiopian Red Cross Society (ERCS), received H.E. Mr. Ehzad Khakpour, Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran to the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia and discussed on how to develop partnership between ERCS and the Red Crescent Society of Iran (RCSI) on August 10, 2017.
Expressing her warm welcome to the Ambassador, the SG explained ERCS’s current drought response endeavors in area of water trucking, distribution of animal feeds, water treatment chemicals and supplementary food to beneficiaries – with special focus on children under five, lactating mothers and pregnant women. She underlined that funds were and are being raised from own sources, local fundraising, sister national societies, IFRC, ICRC and other UN partners. Mrs. Frehiwot also stated that the Society is willing to work in collaboration with the Embassy and RCSI in the drought response areas.
H.E. the Ambassador, on his part, while expressing the purpose of his visit to ERCS HQ said that the Embassy is organizing a visit program for the President of RCSI to Ethiopia which aims at strengthening relationship between the two National Societies. He also stated that RCSI is popular in humanitarian activities particularly in hospital services and medical science. The Embassy is also working to attract Iranian investors in the health sector, among others and RCSI is willing to cooperate in this area as well as collaborating in other projects being undertaken in the drought affected parts of the country, according to the Ambassador.
