ERCS holds its 18th General Assembly

The Ethiopian Red Cross Society (ERCS) held its 18th General Assembly on 13 April 2018 and new Board members were sworn in. The new Board consists of Mr. Abera Tola (President), Dr. Feleke Tadele (Vice President), Dr. Abeba Beyene (Treasurer), and Dr. Tawfik Abdullah, Mrs. Mulu Solomon, Prof. Abraham Haileamlak, Mr. Abebe Kebede, Mrs. Zemi Yenus and Mr. Iyasu Kumsa.
Officially opening the 18th General Assembly, His Excellency Dr. Mulatu Teshome, President of the FDRE and Patron of ERCS, said issues raised and decisions made in the meeting will play a great role in promoting the humanitarian and emergency support provided by ERCS throughout the country. Dr. Mulatu further emphasized in his speech that in comparison to the humanitarian need of Ethiopia the Society’s financial and operational capacities is limited and hence the ERCS should also focus on activities designed to supplement its income, such as finalizing its Filwha multi-purpose building.
Former ERCS Board President Dr. Ahmed Reja announced that the Society have carried out successful activities that have benefited over one million people between January 2017 to March 2018, including supplementary food and non-food items distribution in Amhara, Oromya, Tigray, Somali and SNNPR.
