ERCS needs 11.9 million USD for emergency response
Ethiopian Red Cross Society (ERCS), in collaboration with its partners, is working to support more than 1.2 million people by allocating USD 11.9 million. Of the total, USD 3.1 million secured from its partners and the remaining USD 8.8 million would be covered by ERCS through collecting it from donation.
In the first quarter of 2018/2019 fiscal year, ERCS in partnership with its partners has outlaid USD 1.8 million to provide food and non-food items, cash, water and livelihood support for 169,345 returnees from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, drought affected and displaced people due to conflict in some parts of the country. About 31,176 people were breast feeding mother and children under five.
The government has disclosed about 3.5 million breast feeding mother and children under five were in need of food assistance in the early 2018, the Society has provided assistance to 41,660 people worth USD 429,101.
ERCS has also supplied food and non-food items, water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH), agricultural inputs and livelihood support to help 904,534 people by spending USD 2.7 million for the last fiscal year.
In February 2018, Humanitarian and Disaster Resilience Plan released by the National Disaster Risk Management Commission and the UN Humanitarian Coordinator shows that this year 7.8 million people need food aid throughout the country.
