RC-Net on Resilience Building
The first East African and Indian Ocean Islands Red Cross and Red Crescent Network (EAIOI RC NET) workshop on sharing experiences on resilience building, held from 13th – 15th November 2018 at the Ethiopina Red Cross Society Board Room.
Mr. Engida Mandefro, Deputy Secretary General for Disaster Risk Management of Ethiopian Red Cross Society (ERCS) opening the workshop said, “ERCS’s intervention in resilience focused on creating resilient community rather than focusing on emergency response only.
” ERCS’s community resilience building programmes implementation at Shalla district, West Arsi Zone of Oromia Region, Dejen Zewdu, Program Coordinator for Food Security and Climate Change of ERCS on his presentation, said working on community based disaster risk management (CBDRM) enables us to develop the innovative ideas of the community in early disaster resilience.
During the visit paid by the RC Net team to ERCS activities West Arsi Zonal Branch, Mr. Desire Bundoyi, Head of Disaster Management Department and RC-Net Representative of Burundi Red Cross Society, “I appreciated what ERCS is doing in community resilience building promoting the community to overcome the problems.
” Eva Wanjiko, the Environment and Climate Change Adaptation Program Assistant and RC-Net Representative of Kenya Red Cross Society, on her part said that, “I am very impressed about what ERCS is doing on livelihood project.” “I believe this is a good platform and a good start on how the different national societies within African continent to rebuild each other, and learn from one other,” she added.
The RC-Net platform led by Ethiopian Red Cross Society has been working on resilience building within the RC-Net members.
Recognized as the largest experience sharing event, RC-Net brings together national societies, partner national societies, international agencies and governmental and non-governmental organizations, to exchange knowledge and best practices in the field of disaster resilience.
