Over 2000 community members in Somali region benefit from the Red Cross Resilience projects, replication of best practice underlined
The Ethiopian Red Cross Society(ERCS) in partnership with the Netherlands Red Cross(NLRC) has organized the Ecosystem based Disaster Risk Reduction (ECO-DRR) best practices experience sharing field visit and regional consultation workshop in Jigjiga, Somali Regional Branch from May 18 – 19/2022.
Over seventy invited participants from relevant Federal ministries, regional bureaus and woreda government sector offices, NGOs and community actors engaged in similar activities were present. The overall objective was to give participants the chance of exposure and best practices specifically about the projects implemented within Fafan Zone, Shebele (West Jigjiga) woreda at Tutafi and Hare 2 kebeles. Major structures visited were Water Spreading Weir, Stone Bund, Birkad, Masonry and Seedling plantation that covered more than 13 hectares.
Participants of the workshop strongly recommended on the need to replicate the structures, government support, integration of actors, resource mobilization and the enhancement of the ECO-DRR efforts in order to facilitate their application in the wider community, at least in the Somali region.
