September 1, 2025News

The Ethiopian Red Cross Society, with financial support from the United Kingdom’s Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO), has inaugurated a solar-powered clean drinking water project in Dada Kare Kebele, Kindo Koisha Woreda, Wolaita Zone, South Ethiopian region and is now open for service to the local community.

The Chief Administrator of Wolaita Zone and the guest of honor of the day, Assistant Professor Samuel Tessema, said that the water project answered a long-standing community demand in the area. He thanked the Ethiopian Red Cross Society for its response to this urgent community demand and urged the local community to provide the necessary protection and care for the infrastructure.

President of the Ethiopian Red Cross Society and Board Member of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, Ato Abera Tola, said that the society has not stopped serving the community with its humanitarian services and development activities despite various challenges; he thanked FCDO and the parties who made unremitting efforts to make the project a reality.

The President also called on the community to stand by the humanitarian services of the society by becoming members and volunteers of the Ethiopian Red Cross Society.

The water project, which will benefit more than 15,000 people in Dada Kare Kebele and the surrounding area, was built at a cost of over 12 million birr and has the capacity to provide 17 liters of water per second.
