Cisterns and deepwell hand pumps avoid a dangerous journey in search of water
The construction of cisterns(Birkas) and deep well hand pumps has avoided the need for dangerous journeys in search of food out of water in Hoden and Werabille Kebeles, Gursum Woreda, Fafen Zone of the Somali Region.
The Ethiopian Red Cross Society(ERCS), in partnership with the Netherlands Red Cross (NLRC), has constructed cisterns and deep well hand pumps to collect runoff and pump groundwater, benefiting hundreds of agro-pastoralists in Fafen Zone of the Somali Region.
Mrs. Amina Merseyet, anagro-pastoralist, is married with eight children. She was among several women facing severe water problems, including long and dangerous journeys to fetch water in Hoden and Werabille Kebeles, Gursum Woreda, Fafen Zone of the Somali Region. But this story has been changed now.
“Thanks to God, our cattle now have access to water easily, and we do too. We maintain our personal hygiene and prepare our food properly. We benefit greatly from this support. We are grateful to the Ethiopian Red Cross Society. May God give you.,” said Mrs. Amina.
Since water access is interlinked with food security in preparing food safely and improving livelihoods, ERCS has long been implemented projects that enable communities to feed their families and their markets. ERCS urges partners to invest in building resilience for lasting impact, rather than just supporting emergency response efforts.
የውኃ ጉድጓድ ቢሪካዎችና የጥልቅ ጉድጓድ የእጅ የውኃ ፓምፖች ውኃ ለማግኘት የሚደረጉ አደገኛ ጉዞዎችን አስቀሩ
በሶማሌ ክልል ፋፈን ዞን ጉርሱም ወረዳ፤ በሆደን እና ወራቢሌ ቀበሌዎች የተሰሩ የውኃ ጉድጓዶች (ቢርካዎች) እና የጥልቅ ጉድጓድ የእጅ የውኃ ፓምፖች ውኃ ለማግኘት የሚደረጉ አደገኛ ጉዞዎችን አስቀሩ።
የኢትዮጵያ ቀይ መስቀል ማኅበር ከኔዘርላንድ ቀይ መስቀል ጋር በመተባበር በሶማሌ ክልል ፋፈን ዞን የሰራቸው የውኃ ጉድጓድ ቢርካዎች እና የጥልቅ ጉድጓድ የእጅ የውኃ ፓምፓች የዝናብ ጎርፍና የከርሰ ምድር ውኃ በመሰብሰብ በመቶዎች የሚቆጠሩ ከፊል አርብቶ አደሮችን ተጠቃሚ እንዲሆኑ አድርጓል።
ወ/ሮ አሚና መርሴየት ባለትዳርና የስምንት ልጆች እናት ናቸው። በሶማሌ ክልል ፋፈን ዞን ጉርሱም ወረዳ፤ በሆደን እና ወራቢሌ ቀበሌዎች ውኃ ለመቅዳት ረጅም እና አደገኛ ጉዞን ማድረገን ጨምሮ ለከፍተኛ የውሃ ችግር ከተጋለጡ በርካታ ሴቶች መካከል አንዷ ነበሩ። ሆኖም ይህ ታሪክ አሁን ተቀይሯል።
“ፈጣሪ ይመስገን ይህ ውኃ በመምጣቱ ከብቶቻችን ያለምንም ችግር ውሃ እያገኙ ነው፡፡ እኛም በቀላሉ ውሃ እያገኘን ነው፡፡ የግል ንፅህናችንን እንጠብቃለን፡፡ ምግባችንንም በአግባቡ እናዘጋጃለን፡፡ ለኑሯችን ብዙ ጥቅም ሰጥቶናል፡፡ የኢትዮጵያ ቀይ መስቀል ማኅበርን ለአደረገልን ነገር በጣም እናመሰግናለን፡፡ ፈጣሪ ይስጠው” ሲሉ ወ/ሮ አሚና ይነገራሉ።
የውሃ አቅርቦት መኖር ምግብን ጽዳቱን በጠበቀ አስተማማኝ ሁኔታ በማዘጋጀት እና ኑሮን በማሻሻል የምግብ ዋስትናን ከማረጋገጥ ጋር የተቆራኘ በመሆኑ የኢትዮጵያ ቀይ መስቀል ማኅበር፣ ህብረተሰቡ ቤተሰባቸውን እና ገበያቸውን እንዲመግቡ የሚያስችላቸውን ፕሮጀክቶች ሲተገብር ቆይቷል።
ማኅበሩ አጋር ድርጅቶች አስቸኳይ የአደጋ ምላሽ ላይ ብቻ ሳይሆን የመቋቋም አቅምን የሚያጎለብቱ ፕሮጀክቶችን እንዲደግፉ ጥሪ ያቀርባል።
