ERCS Conducts Consultative Meeting on Key Findings of Joint Research on Humanitarian Actions


The Ethiopian Red Cross Society in collaboration with the British Red Cross and Danish Red Cross conducted Panel discussion on key findings of joint research by the Ethiopian Red Cross, British Red Cross and Danish Red Cross, entitled ’Delivering Principled Locally Led Humanitarian Action’, today in Bishoftu Town.

In his opening remark, President of ERCS Ato Abera Tola, said that the research comes at a moment where humanitarian needs in our country are growing and the environment is becoming more complex. and today’s panel discussion will further enrich this research.
“Our goal is for the research to become a guiding resource for principled, effective humanitarian action in Ethiopia,” he added.
Ato Abera said access, membership, youth and volunteerism are issues that lie at the heart of the society’s mission.

Silvia Colona, Head of International Law and Policy of the British Red Cross, thanked the Ethiopian Red Cross leadership for having demonstrated incredible courage and a bold vision in trusting the research project that has now become a leading blueprint for many other research models around the world.
She added that other national societies have contributed to this project and following the steps of the Ethiopian Red Cross are also building an evidence base that is incredibly valuable.

Key findings of the research were presented and discussed with government representatives, Partner National Societies, board members, ERCS management and regional office heads and government officials contributed various ideas that will enhances the ERCS’s performance in delivering humanitarian service
