Society Conducts Red Cross Dissemination Training on Safer Humanitarian Access

The Ethiopian Red Cross Society, in collaboration with the Finnish Red Cross, conducted a Red Cross Dissemination Training on Safer Humanitarian Services for Oromia Police Officers and members from various parts of the Oromia region at the Oromia Police College, Adama Main Campus.

The training covered key topics including the establishment and activities of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement, the nature and proper use of the Red Cross and Red Crescent emblems, the Fundamental Principles, and International Humanitarian Law.

Assistant Commissioner Gosaye Kebede, Director General of the Oromia Police College, attended the session and delivered remarks. He stated, “The Ethiopian Red Cross Society is a great organization that we are proud of, carrying out humanitarian work in our country without discrimination, regardless of race, color, or religion.” He emphasized that the training is essential for raising the awareness of the security forces, enabling them to provide the necessary support during the Society’s humanitarian operations. He added, “We are ready to support the humanitarian services provided by the Red Cross in any situation.”

Deputy Secretary General of the Ethiopian Red Cross Society, Mohamed Jamal, noted that the Society has been delivering humanitarian services for the past 90 years, overcoming many challenges. He highlighted that providing such training to security forces strengthens the Society’s ability to freely and safely carry out its humanitarian mandate. He also called on participants to continue supporting the Society’s humanitarian activities in their respective areas.

Samuel Gashaw, Head of the Society’s Legal Service, stressed that the Ethiopian Red Cross Society requires the support and cooperation of all stakeholders in order to effectively fulfill its auxiliary role to the government in humanitarian service. He urged the security forces to extend the necessary support and contribute to the success of the Society’s mission.

About 200 police officers took part in the training. Participants expressed that they gained valuable understanding about the Red Cross and its services and affirmed their commitment to supporting the Society’s humanitarian work in the future.
