ERCS Launches a 3 Million Pound Multipurpose Cash Assistance project


The Ethiopian Red Cross Society (ERCS), launches a short term project titled “Multipurpose Cash Assistance (MPCA) for Vulnerable Households in Multi-Crisis Contexts of Amhara, Oromia, Tigray, and Benishangul Gumuz Regions” with a total budget of 3 Million Paund funded by the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO).

The project, which targets a total of 47,336 households in 4 regions, is designed to provide multipurpose cash assistance to internally displaced persons (IDPs), returnees, and vulnerable host community members while strengthening the capacity of key actors in Cash and Voucher Assistance (CVA) programming.

In his Opening remark, Ato Dires Desyibelew, the Society’s Deputy Secretary General of programs, mentioned ERCS’s growing capacity towards implementation of cash assistance and ongoing efforts to fully digitalize the system. Ato Dires added that ERCS has a plan to expand use of cash and voucher assistance modality and deliver at least 70% of its life saving assistance through cash by end of 2027. He finally forwarded his gratitude for the FCDO for funding the project.

The project will be implemented until end of March 2026.
