Hundreds of thousands of Birr earned from beekeeping in May’keyih Kebele – Tigray region

Ato Habtekiros Fisum is married and a father of four children. He lives in May’keyih Kebele, Dedeba Tabia, Enderta Woreda, South Eastern Zone of the Tigray Region. A decade ago, he was unemployed and faced many hardships.
ERCS, in partnership with the IFRC and other sister national societies, purchased two beehives for Ato Habtekiros in 2015. This direct support changed his mind from considering migration to another country.

Today, Ato Habtekiros owns 70 beehives and earns approximately 700,000 Birr annually, allowing him to feed his family adequately.
“Now, I am self-sufficient in all things. I have the means to purchase everything my children need to eat properly. Everything is fulfilled in my family,” says Habtekiros.
Like Habtekiros, millions of youths are in need of a genuine investment that enables them to be food-secure, resilient, productive, and healthy.

ERCS calls on government leaders, private sector leaders, and development agencies to support community-driven resilience-building projects in Ethiopia.
