Humanitarian Communication Must Always Align with the Fundamental Principles of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement

The Ethiopian Red Cross Society (ERCS),in partnership with the Finnish Red Cross(FRC) , is conducting a training on Communication, Digital Media Management, Safer access frame work and related topics for Communication and Dissemination (DVM) staff and volunteers. The training commenced on December 16, 2025, in Addis Ababa.

In his opening remarks, Ato Mesfin Dereje, Head of the ERCS Humanitarian Diplomacy and Communication Service, stated that humanitarian communication is a responsibility rooted in the Fundamental Principles of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement, aimed at serving and supporting people in need through coordinated efforts with volunteers and members.

He further underscored that ERCS communicators must always and consistently align their communication work with the Movement’s Fundamental Principles. He emphasized that information shared on both personal and official ERCS social media platforms should be accurate, impartial, and reflect humanity.

The training covers key topics including an induction to the Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement, communication principles in the Red Cross, Safer Access framework approach, digital media in a global context, mobile journalism, and related subjects.
