ERCS Holds a Comprehensive Leadership and Management Retreat

The Ethiopian Red Cross Society (ERCS) held a comprehensive leadership and management retreat in Bishoftu from 19–21 December 2025, bringing together Governing Board Members, senior management from Headquarters, and Regional Branch Heads.
The retreat served as a critical platform to reflect on internal systems, leadership practices, and organizational performance, with the aim of strengthening humanitarian impact nationwide.

Opening the retreat, ERCS President Ato Abera Tola emphasized that the primary purpose of the gathering was to look inward, identify gaps observed in day-to-day leadership and operational practices, and address them genuinely to achieve the Society’s strategic goals.

He underlined that building trust—within communities, within the National Society, and among leaders and co-workers—is fundamental to effective humanitarian action. Trust, he noted, enables ERCS to operate smoothly and respond effectively wherever humanitarian needs arise.

The President further stressed that strong coordination, alignment, and teamwork across all departments and branch offices are essential for success. With unity and shared commitment, he stated, nothing can hinder ERCS from realizing its vision of becoming a strong and exemplary humanitarian organization. He also reaffirmed the Governing Board’s full commitment to supporting management in driving institutional transformation.

The retreat concluded by approving different policies and manuals of the National Society like the Internal Audit Charter, Risk Management policy, Anti-Fraud, Bribery and Corruption Policy, Whistleblower policy and Procurement Manual of the Society.
