Ethiopian Red Cross Society’s Sheger City Administration Branch Office, in collaboration with the International Committee of the Red Cross(ICRC), organized an awareness-raising forum for Ethiopian Police University leaders, teachers, and the university’s community, on the Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement and the International Humanitarian Law(IHL), in Sendafa Beke town , today.

At the forum, which was held at the university campus in the town, experts from the ERCS and ICRC gave explanations on the historical origins, objectives, principles of the Movement, and the International Humanitarian Law(IHL).

Commander Waleling Gesit, Head of the Military Training and Personality Development Department at the university, said during his opening remarks that “The motto of the Ethiopian Police is ‘Serving with Humanity; Protecting with Bravery’, so we are concerned about the issue of humanity, and we recognize the importance of this awareness-raising forum for our future work.”

On his part, the head of ERCS’s Sheger City Administration BranchOffice, Ato Alemayehu Mamo, recalled that the Ethiopian Red Cross Society has been providing humanitarian services for the past ninety years and he called on security forces to understand the principles of the Red Cross and Red Crescent movement and the International Humanitarian Law and support the humanitarian service of the Society.

The forum is said to broaden understanding of the participants on Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement and the International Humanitarian Law.
