The Ethiopian Red Cross Society (ERCS), in partnership with the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC), conducted the Close-out/Review Meeting of Phase II of the Saving Lives & Livelihoods (SLL) Program on 31 December 2025 in Addis Ababa.

The close-out meeting brought together participants from the FDRE Ministry of Health, Africa CDC, the Mastercard Foundation, IFRC, ERCS, UNICEF, AMREF, and other partners. The meeting aimed to review the key achievements, outcomes, and impacts of the Saving Lives and Livelihoods Program, which was implemented in Ethiopia from 1 April 2025 to 31 December 2025.

In his welcoming remarks, Dr. Aniekeme Uwah, Senior Country Representative of Africa CDC in Ethiopia, stated that Phase II of the SLL project recorded several notable achievements. He emphasized that the results clearly demonstrate what can be achieved through strong partnerships, country ownership, and a shared commitment to protecting the lives and livelihoods of people.

Representing the FDRE Ministry of Health, Dr. Muluken Desta, Senior Advisor to the Minister, noted in his opening remarks that the SLL project has truly touched the lives of many individuals who were affected by COVID-19, both directly and indirectly, through strengthened health systems.

Ms. Paula Fritzgerald, IFRC Head of Delegation for Ethiopia & Djibouti Cluster on her part noted that capacities built through the program, including trained community health workers, have demonstrated their effectiveness across multiple interventions.

Dr. Mazyanga Lucy Mazaba, Regional Director of Africa CDC, delivered her message virtually, while representatives of partner organizations also conveyed their goodwill messages during the event.
