ERCS and ICRC Hold High Level Discussion with Ministry

The Ethiopian Red Cross Society (ERCS), the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), and the Federal Ministry of Health (FMoH) held a high-level discussion on the current humanitarian situation, exploring practical ways to strengthen collaboration and coordination to maximize collective efforts to save lives – particularly among the most vulnerable communities.

H.E. Dr. Mekdes Daba, Minister of Health, emphasized that the partnership and support of the Red Cross is long-standing, not recent, and underscored the importance of working hand in hand to further strengthen joint efforts and enhance the overall humanitarian response.

Ato Abera Lulessa, Secretary General of the Ethiopian Red Cross Society, highlighted ERCS’s auxiliary role and reaffirmed its commitment to supporting communities in need through close synergy and cooperation with government institutions and humanitarian partners.

Simone Casabianca Aeschlimann, Head of ICRC’s Delegation in Ethiopia, stressed the importance of the proper use of the Red Cross and Red Crescent emblems and the need to strengthen coordination mechanisms to ensure effective, principled, and well-aligned humanitarian action.
