Swedish Red Cross delegation holds talks with the Society’s officials

.
The Swedish Red Cross delegation held discussions with the Secretary General and the management team of the Ethiopian Red Cross Society on working in partnership with the Society.

Ato Abera Lulessa, Secretary General of the Society, warmly welcomed the delegation to his office and briefed them on the Society’s new organizational structure and the capacity it is building to meet in response to the humanitarian needs across the country through its members and volunteers.
The Secretary General expressed his pleasure at the resumption of the Society’s previous partnership with the Swedish Red Cross, noting that growing humanitarian needs across the country, coupled with a decline in international funding, remain a major challenge.

Ms. Gisela Holmen, Head of the African Unit at the Swedish Red Cross, on her part, expressed her pleasure at the resumption of the partnership with the Society and reaffirmed the Swedish Red Cross’s readiness to work together.

She further noted that the design of a migration-focused project has been completed and that it will be implemented soon in partnership with the Society, following the appointment of the Head of the Swedish Red Cross in Ethiopia.

The partnership between the Swedish Red Cross and ERCS spans over 90 years. The Swedish Red Cross team, most notably Count Carl Gustav von Rosen, is remembered for its exceptional humanitarian service during the fascist Italian invasion of Ethiopia in 1935.
