ERCS Recognized for its Contribution to Water and Sanitation Sector

ERCS Recognized for its Contribution to Water and Sanitation Sector
February 13, 2026NewsERCSTigray

The Tigray Regional Water and Energy Bureau has awarded the Ethiopian Red Cross Society(ERCS) Tigray Regional Branch Office with a certificate of recognition for its great contribution and support in the Water and Sanitation Sector, at a recognition ceremony organized by the bureau for stakeholders engaged in the sector.

The certificate was presented to the branch office at the ceremony, which was attended by the President of the Tigray Regional Interim Administration, Lt. Gen. Tadesse Werede, in recognition of ERCS’s significant contribution to disaster preparedness, response coordination, and the successful strengthening of water and sanitation services, as well as efforts to restore access to clean water in the region, which had deteriorated during the war.

Before the war, the coverage of access to clean water in Tigray region was 57%, but after the war, due to the destruction of infrastructures, it dropped to 15%, and it is now reported that it has reached 40% due to the great efforts and support of stakeholders in the sector.

Since the role of stakeholders in improving the coverage of access to clean water in the region is significant, a call has been made for continued support, and the regional government and the bureau will continue to provide the necessary cooperation as usual, it was stated in the message delivered at the ceremony.

We live for humanity!
