The Branch Office Should Be Strengthened to Expand its Humanitarian Services
The Ethiopian Red Cross Society’s Addis Ababa Branch Office elected members of the Governing Board at its regular General Assembly held in Addis Ababa today.
Head of the Branch Office, Ato Dereje Muleta, in his welcome remark, noted that the General Assembly aims to discuss the activities carried out, the challenges faced by the Branch Office in the past four years, and the future directions of focus, as well as to elect the members of the Governing Board who will serve in the coming four years.
In his opening remarks, the former Chairman of the Board, Ato Tesfamichael Tafesse, pointed out that efforts have been made to strengthen the capacity of the Branch Office and expand its humanitarian services over the past four years and said that extensive work is expected to be done in strengthening the revenue capacity and increasing the number of members and volunteers, which requires the cooperation of all stakeholders.
Despite efforts made to obtain legal ownership of the place where the branch office is located, the ownership has not yet been achieved. The main challenges encountered in the past were identified as the inability to develop the land owned by the North Addis Ababa Coordination Office due to a lack of funds, insufficient budget support from the city administration, and the failure to provide services as required because of the absence of ambulance subsidies.
After discussing the four-year performance report of the Branch Office, the General Assembly elected individuals to lead the Governing Board as members and leaders.
Dr Tefera Mola was elected as the Chairperson of the Governing Board, Ato Belay Dejen as the Deputy Chairperson, and Mrs Tsige Weyeni Kassa as the Treasurer.
The newly elected Board leadership and members also took an oath before the entire Assembly to fulfil their responsibilities with honesty and integrity.
