The Ethiopian Red Cross Society’s(ERCS) Southern Ethiopia Regional Branch Office, in collaboration with the Zonal Branch Office, comforted and provided first round of non-food items to the families affected by the landslides and floods that occurred in the Southern Ethiopia Regional State, Gamo Zone, Gacho Baba Woreda; Mazo Doisa Kebele, following the heavy rains of February 9-10, 2026.

Tesfaye Dunda, head of ERCS’s regional branch office, noted that this is the first round of support that has been done to comfort the victims. He added that the support will be provided in a short time by compiling information on the disasters that occurred in various districts of the zone in an organized manner.

The Gamo Zone ERCS Branch Office, citing the local administration, said that as of yesterday, the number of people who lost their lives in the disaster has reached 99, with more than 788 households and a total of 4,527 members of the community being displaced.

The office also stated that the number of displaced and dead could increase, urging the community to continue to take the necessary precautions.
