British Red Cross Holds an Introductory Visit to ERCS

The British Red Cross, led by Brian Beckett, Director of Program Quality and Accountability, and accompanied by Joyce Waititu, East Africa Head of Programs, held an introductory visit to the Ethiopian Red Cross Society (ERCS) today.

This visit reflects BRC’s commitment to deepening partnership, strengthening collective understanding of ongoing programs, and ensuring that technical teams have a clear appreciation of the operational realities shaping humanitarian action in Ethiopia.
During the mission, Brian and Joyce engage with ERCS leadership and the program team to exchange insights on program progress, safeguarding, accountability, and future collaboration pathways.

They also visited the central humanitarian warehouse, the Essential Drugs program, and the medicines and medical equipment, as well as trucks donated by FCDO to ERCS.
Ato Abera Lulessa, Secretary General of ERCS, appreciated the visit by BRC and said that almost all of the strategic priorities of BRC are aligned with ERCS’s.

“We have eight priorities, and five of the BRC ambitions are really aligned with our priorities. So that will help to further strengthen our partnership.”Ato Abera added.
Mr.Brian, on his part, noted that the partnership BRC has with ERCS has been very healthy and positive, and the way that ERCS works with FCDO has been a way for them to really shift decision-making, because ERCS has a direct engagement with the UK government.

The visit aims to reinforce a shared approach to quality, learning, and impact, while supporting continued alignment across our joint humanitarian and resilience-building efforts.
