Addis Ababa, 27 March 2026 — A delegation from the Austrian Red Cross paid a courtesy visit to the Ethiopian Red Cross Society headquarters in Addis Ababa, engaging in strategic discussions aimed at further strengthening collaboration between the two sister National Societies.

The meeting brought together senior leadership from both organizations. Representing ERCS were Secretary General Abera Lulessa, Deputy Secretaries Generals, and the Director for Communication and Humanitarian Diplomacy. The Austrian Red Cross delegation was led by Walter Hajek, Head of International Cooperation, and included senior officials responsible for international programs, Africa operations, as well as Regional Managers and Country Representatives for Ethiopia, Uganda, and Rwanda.

Discussions focused on the impact of the nearly two-decade-long partnership between ERCS and the Austrian Red Cross, highlighting key achievements and shared humanitarian priorities. Both sides exchanged views on how to sustain and further strengthen their collaboration amid an evolving funding landscape.

Particular emphasis was given to advancing localization efforts and supporting broader system change, ensuring that humanitarian responses remain effective, inclusive, and locally driven.

The visit reaffirmed the strong and enduring partnership between the two National Societies, underscoring their shared commitment to delivering impactful humanitarian services.
