The Regional Branch Office Holds its General Assembly and Elects Board Members
The Somali Region Branch Office of the Ethiopian Red Cross Society(ERCS) conducted its regular General Assembly and, elected board leaders and members consisting of seven individuals who will lead the branch office for the next four years, today in Jigjiga town.
At the assembly, which was attended by senior regional officials, community elders, and youth, reports were presented on the branch office’s performance over the past four years, including various humanitarian and development activities carried out in the region, as well as the board’s performance. In addition, a document outlining the strategic plan for the next two years was presented and discussed, and a two-year indicative budget was also approved.
ERCS’s Deputy Secretary General for Branches and Localization, Mr. Mohammed Jemal, noted that the Society, which is currently undergoing transformation, has developed a new strategic plan and begun its implementation. He also stated that it is carrying out development and humanitarian activities that are benefiting the regional community.
Mr. Mohammed further added that, by opening additional branch offices in all zones of the region, the ERCS aims to provide services to the community at the required scale and level of accessibility. He called on the government to provide the necessary support to achieve this goal.
At the conclusion of the session, elections were held for new board members. The General Assembly elected Sultan Abdinassir Mohamed Aden as Board Chairperson; Sultan Abdi Ali Jema as Deputy Chairperson; and W/ro Mekdes Hailu as Treasurer. Gerad Kulmiye Gerad Mohamed, Bashir Hussein Ilmi, Ahmed Hassan Shermarke, and Sister Zahara Abdi Semater were elected as board members.
Members of the General Assembly also expressed their best wishes for a successful term to the newly elected board members and leaders, and stated their confidence that they will fulfill their responsibilities in advancing the humanitarian mission of the branch and the ERCS as a whole.
