ERCS’s Dire Dawa City Administration Branch Holds General Assembly, Elects New Board
The Dire Dawa City Administration Branch of the Ethiopian Red Cross Society (ERCS) held its General Assembly today in Dire Dawa, bringing together senior government officials of the city administration and members of the Society. During the session, a seven-member Board of Directors was elected to lead the branch over the next four years.
During the session, participants reviewed the branch’s performance over the past four years, reflecting on key humanitarian and development activities implemented across the city administration, as well as the Board’s performance report.
Speaking at the event, ERCS Deputy Secretary General for Branches and Localization, Ato Mohamed Jamal, underscored that effective resource mobilization and responsible utilization are central to the Society’s success. He highlighted the importance of strengthening partnerships, expanding the resource base, and ensuring that all funds are managed transparently and for the greatest benefit of those in need. He also underscored the need for the Dire Dawa branch to expand its membership base.
Ato Mohamed also stressed that the Dire Dawa branch of the Society should work hard to increase its membership, and government representatives have promised that the current number of members will increase significantly.
At the conclusion of the Assembly, elections were held for new Board members. Mr. Abduselam Ahmed was elected as Chairman, Mr. Abduselam Mohamed as Deputy Chairman, and Ms. Hayat Ahmed as Treasurer. Dr. Robel Gizachew, Dr. Solomon Zerihun, Ms. Martha Kuma, and Ato Gebeyehu Tilahun were elected as Board Members.
Members of the General Assembly extended their best wishes to the newly elected leadership, expressing confidence in their ability to effectively carry out the humanitarian mission of the branch and the Society as a whole.
The Dire Dawa City Administration has been strengthening the Society’s humanitarian services through continued budgetary support.
