Branch Office Concludes EC2R Project Exit Strategy Workshop

Branch Office Concludes EC2R Project Exit Strategy Workshop
April 30, 2026NewsEC2RFCDOUK

The Ethiopian Red Cross Society (ERCS) Oromia Regional Office has successfully concluded a three-year EC2R Project Exit Strategy Workshop, marking an important step in transitioning a major humanitarian initiative to local ownership.

The workshop brought together ERCS Health and WASH Director Mr. Gashaw Dagne, Oromia Regional Office Head Mr. Kemal Abdella, EC2R Project Manager Mrs. Mekdes Megisteab, along with government partners, community representatives, and project staff.

The workshop aimed to ensure the sustainability of achievements made over the past three years, support the handover of health and WASH services and infrastructure, and strengthen local ownership for continued impact.

The EC2R Project was implemented in several woredas across Oromia, including East Shoa, East Borana, West Arsi and Guji Zones.

Over its three phases, the project achieved significant results. Health facilities were constructed and rehabilitated, improving access to services for thousands of people. Clean water systems, sanitation facilities, and hygiene promotion activities helped improve community health and reduce waterborne diseases.

In addition, training and technical support strengthened the capacity of local institutions and communities, enabling them to sustain these improvements and better respond to future challenges.

The conclusion of the workshop marks a transition rather than an end, with local stakeholders now taking the lead to ensure the continued benefits of the project for years to come.
