ERCS Holds Strategic Discussion with UN OCHA on Partnership and Humanitarian Response

The Ethiopian Red Cross Society (ERCS) held a productive discussion today with representatives of UN OCHA at the ERCS National Office, focusing on strengthening partnerships, enhancing humanitarian response efforts in Gambella Region, and ERCS’s participation in the Ethiopian Humanitarian Country Team.

The meeting addressed key humanitarian challenges, including budget constraints, access limitations, and fuel shortages, while exploring collaborative solutions to better serve affected communities.

ERCS Secretary General, Ato Abera Lulessa, noted that the Society has conducted assessments through its volunteers and staff to gain a clearer picture of humanitarian needs in Gambella. He added that consultations with partners and reinforcement of the existing response structure in the area are ongoing.

Ato Abera also expressed his appreciation for the constructive discussion and the shared commitment to humanitarian cooperation.
ERCS’s extensive nationwide presence, acceptance, and trust, as well as better access to communities, were highlighted as important opportunities to strengthen humanitarian response.

UN OCHA representatives also emphasized the importance of continued dialogue and coordination with other humanitarian actors to maximize impact.
