ERCS Sidama Regional Branch Provides Humanitarian Assistance to Conflict-Affected Communit

The Ethiopian Red Cross Society (ERCS) Sidama Regional Branch Office provided emergency humanitarian assistance from 22–24 May 2026 to communities affected by the recent conflict involving Chire, Aroresa, and Hokko woredas of the Sidama Region and Haranfama Woreda of West Guji Zone.

The humanitarian response aimed to support displaced and vulnerable families who were severely impacted by the conflict and urgently required lifesaving assistance.
During a field visit to the affected areas, the Head of the ERCS Sidama Regional Branch Office, Mr. Kibru Tilahun, expressed his heartfelt condolences to families who lost their loved ones due to the conflict. He also reaffirmed the commitment of the Ethiopian Red Cross Society to continue supporting vulnerable communities and addressing urgent humanitarian needs in coordination with relevant stakeholders.

“As a humanitarian organization, ERCS remains committed to standing alongside affected communities during difficult times and ensuring timely humanitarian support reaches those most in need,” he noted during the visit.

As part of the emergency response, the Branch provided a range of humanitarian services, including:
- Ambulance referral services for injured individuals
- Emergency food assistance for displaced families
- Distribution of medical supplies
- Provision of non-food items for conflict-affected households

The response operation was carried out in close collaboration with the Regional Disaster Risk Management (DRM) Office, the Health Bureau, sector partners, and zonal and woreda administrators to ensure coordinated and effective humanitarian support.
The Ethiopian Red Cross Society continues to strengthen its emergency response efforts to save lives, reduce suffering, and support the recovery of communities affected by conflict and disasters across the country.
