ERCS Conducts Exit Workshop for the Ethiopia Crises to Resilience (EC2R) Project

The Ethiopian Red Cross Society (ERCS) conducted an exit workshop for the Ethiopia Crises to Resilience (EC2R) Project, bringing together government partners, Partner National Societies, ERCS leadership, HQ, and regional project staff.

The workshop aims to formally conclude the implementation of the project by sharing its key achievements, challenges, lessons learned, and sustainability considerations across the Health, WASH, Cash, and Non-Food Item (NFI) pre-positioning components with government counterparts, stakeholders, and donors. It also seeks to facilitate a smooth, coordinated, and sustainable transition of project interventions to ensure the continuity of results beyond the project’s closure.

In his opening remarks, Ato Dires Desyibelew, Deputy Secretary General for Programs of ERCS, emphasized that the project represents not only a significant investment in humanitarian action but also a strong and growing partnership among stakeholders. He noted that the project, which initially began in four regions and selected zones, has since expanded to six regions and increased its coverage threefold across target zones, reaching a large number of vulnerable people throughout the country.

Ato Dires expressed his appreciation to government institutions and partner organizations for their invaluable contributions to the project’s successful implementation. He further highlighted that the upcoming fourth phase of the project will have broader geographical coverage and increased resources, enabling it to support even more communities in need.

During the workshop, participants reviewed and discussed the project’s overall achievements, implementation challenges, lessons learned, and sustainability measures.
Representatives of the British Red Cross and the Netherlands Red Cross also shared reflections on the project’s impact and the importance of continued collaboration to strengthen community resilience.

The Ethiopia Crises to Resilience (EC2R) Project Phases I–III was implemented from August 2023 to March 31, 2026, across 40 woredas in the Oromia, Amhara, Tigray, and Benishangul Gumuz Regions, supporting vulnerable communities through integrated humanitarian and resilience-building interventions.
