ERCS Addis Ababa Branch Holds Annual Review Meeting

The Addis Ababa Branch of the Ethiopian Red Cross Society (ERCS) held its annual review meeting yesterday in Addis Ababa, bringing together current and former board members, senior management from HQ and the branch, and staff to review the branch’s performance and set priorities for the coming year.

Opening the meeting, Dr. Tefera Mola, Chairperson of the Branch Board, highlighted the importance of the annual review in assessing achievements, addressing challenges, and strengthening the branch’s strategic direction.
During the meeting, participants reviewed the branch’s 2018 annual performance report and discussed the 2019 annual plan, followed by a plenary discussion involving management and board members.

Presenting the annual performance report, Ato Dereje Muleta, Head of ERCS Addis Ababa Branch, noted that despite challenges—including limited funding to develop the secured land at the Northern Addis Ababa Coordination Office, market inflation, database system limitations, and insufficient sustainable income—the branch achieved significant progress in delivering humanitarian services.

Speaking at the meeting, Ato Mohammed Jamal, ERCS Deputy Secretary General for Branch Affairs and Localization, encouraged the branch to maximize its income by leveraging the city’s economic potential. He also stressed the importance of embracing technological advancements to improve operational efficiency and service delivery.

Dr. Tefera emphasized that performance reports should focus not only on figures but also on the processes, outcomes, and impact of the branch’s humanitarian work. He identified community mobilization, institutional reform, operational strengthening, and improving the working environment as key priorities for the coming year.

The meeting also recognized the outgoing board members’ dedication and outstanding contributions, honoring their leadership and commitment to advancing the humanitarian mission of the Ethiopian Red Cross Society during their tenure.
