Hon. Lomi Bedho, Deputy Speaker of the House of People’s Representatives and Chairperson of the Governing Board of the Ethiopian Red Cross Society (ERCS) Oromia Regional Branch, visited development projects implemented by the Society in partnership with the United Kingdom’s Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) in Adami Tullu Jiddo Kombolcha Woreda, East Shewa Zone of the Oromia Region.
With support from the FCDO-funded Ethiopia Crisis to Resilience (EC2R) Project, the ERCS Oromia Regional Branch, through its East Shewa Zonal Branch, has successfully implemented several community infrastructure projects.
These include the solarization of rural water supply systems to improve access to safe drinking water, the construction and rehabilitation of health facility buildings and sanitation facilities, as well as the construction of gender-segregated school latrines and Menstrual Hygiene Management (MHM) rooms to support the health and education of schoolgirls. These interventions have significantly improved access to essential health, WASH, and education services for local communities.
During the field visit, Hon. Mrs. Lomi Bedho commended the quality and impact of the completed projects, noting that the interventions have substantially enhanced access to clean water, strengthened health services, improved sanitation and hygiene, and brought tangible improvements to the lives of beneficiary communities.
She underscored the importance of sustaining these achievements through continued collaboration among government institutions, local communities, development partners, and the Ethiopian Red Cross Society.
The visit was attended by members of the Regional and zonal Branch Governing Board, branch heads, the Deputy Chief Administrator of East Shewa Zone, along with district officials, sector experts, and other key stakeholders.
