Regional Branch Calls for Strengthened Capacity to Expand Humanitarian Services


The Ethiopian Red Cross Society (ERCS) Sidama Regional Branch held the second session of its 5th General Assembly in Hawassa City, where delegates reviewed the branch’s performance over the past four years and elected a new Governing Board to lead the branch.

During the General Assembly, participants reviewed the branch’s four-year performance report and held extensive discussions on its achievements, challenges, and future priorities.
Delegates emphasized the need to strengthen the branch’s institutional capacity, increase membership and membership contributions, expand volunteer engagement, enhance collaboration with stakeholders, and improve the accessibility and quality of humanitarian services. The newly elected Executive Board was entrusted with advancing these priorities to further strengthen the branch’s humanitarian impact.

At the conclusion of the Assembly, delegates elected the new Executive Board. Ato Tamene Tessema was elected Board Chairperson, Ato Kasu Arusa as Deputy Chairperson, and Ms. Mulat Yosef as Treasurer. Ato Ararso Geremew, Ato Kontamo Burqa, Hon. Ato Tiratu Beyene, and Dr. Selamawit Mengesha were elected as Board Members.

The newly elected Board members took an oath of office, pledging to uphold the fundamental principles and values of the Ethiopian Red Cross Society while working to strengthen the branch’s capacity and expand humanitarian services for vulnerable communities across the Sidama Region.
