ERCS Provides Assistance to Displaced People in Gonder
Ethiopian Red Cross Society (ERCS) has provided non-food items (NFI) to 9,238 internally displaced households in Central and West Gonder Zones of the Amhara Regional State, since August, 2018. The Society spent close to birr 17 million to assist those displaced people.
Pregnant and breast-feeding mothers, elderly and female headed households are among prioritized vulnerable who have lost their assets – houses burnt down, livestock and farming lands left behind, leaving them with no opportunity to sustain themselves.
The Society has delivered its assistance to 9,163 conflict induced and 63 flood affected victims who are living in ten different temporary settlement areas. The rest 12 are elderlies, living in Gonder city.
So far, 9,238 NFI kits comprising blankets, sleeping mats and kitchen sets have been dispatched. The kits are supported by International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) and International Rescue Committee (IRC).
ERCS is responding to the crisis in coordination with its partners who are jointly working to address life-saving and meet immediate emergency needs. Using its ambulances, the two Zones staff members and dedicated volunteers are presently responding to the urgent needs of the displaced people.
